The height of cattle pens should be adjusted according to the growth stage of the cattle and the feeding environment:

By Growth Stage

1. Calf Pen: When newborn calves are approximately 80-85cm tall, the fence height should reach 120cm to prevent them from jumping out.

2. Adult Cattle Pen: A standard fence height of 1.5 meters is recommended, with the horizontal spacing of the fence controlled at 0.9-1.2 meters to prevent them from slipping out while ensuring ventilation.

By Feeding Method

1. Indoor Fattening Pen: Single/double-row cattle pens require a fence height of 1.4 meters, with matching door frames approximately 1.2 x 1.4 meters, facilitating entry and exit for larger fattening cattle.

2. Outdoor Free-Range Pen: The height needs to be increased to 3 meters, primarily to address the high activity level of cattle in open environments, while also preventing attacks from wild animals.

Key Material Selection Factors

It is recommended to use PVC-coated galvanized steel wire mesh or galvanized steel pipes for the fences, with a diameter of not less than 4mm. In humid climates, a concrete base with corrosion protection should be used. For outdoor environments, barbed wire anti-climb netting can be added. It is recommended to check the stability of the posts and the integrity of the netting monthly, and to conduct an immediate inspection after heavy rain or strong winds.
